Abstract

In the dystopian movie Elysium, Neill Blomkamp (2013) creates graphic apocalyptic images of global chaos and the ravages of poverty taking place on the earth of the future—year 2154. The only humans left on earth seem to be depraved, destitute and mostly people of color while the one percent aristocrats lead by actress Jodi Foster orbit above the planet’s atmosphere isolated in their own sterile yet elegant oval shaped space station/community called Elysium.
