Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the nature of the interrelationship between education and society in socially different countries during the twentieth century. This chapter will fi rst be devoted to a brief comparison within a historical context of the distinctive social attributes of the United States and India from the perspective of the factors expressing national identity. After this, it provides a comparison within a historical framework of the developmental trends of educational policy in the United States and India with regard to the bases for outdoor-oriented education.
