Abstract

The adult education tradition in Portugal is mainly characterized by its absenteeism, due to political and financial disinvestment, and also as a result of one of the longest authoritarian regimes in Western Europe, lasting from 1926 until 1974, which profoundly affected Portuguese people’s access to education.
