Abstract

The second tenet of Unlocking Silent Histories is that youth have the capacity to identify and carve out their learning path and to tell their own (hi)stories. This first part of this design principle seeks to assist in countering hegemonic narratives created and perpetuated by traditional schooling. Namely, “early schools redefined the world and where indigenous peoples were positioned within the world” (Smith, 2012; Kindle Locations, 895–896).
