Abstract

I got into teaching to make a difference. It’s that simple; however, I left the profession after two years, because I felt I could no longer be effective. Early on, I realized the field of education was not ready for someone like me. I was different, and being “different” was not something educators, school leaders, or community members embraced. That realization was hard for me. Why? I devoted my life to education.
