Abstract

In 1954 the Algerian Front de Liberation National (FLN) launched an armed insurgency against French colonial occupation. This insurgency quickly escalated into a large-scale war, finally resulting in a peace settlement in 1962 that declared Algerian independence (Horne, 1977). As part of the liberation struggle, the FLN engaged in actions of opposition and disruption of the French state school system for Algerian Muslims.
