Abstract
The challenges to the education system in the 21st century are focused on understanding how the societal context and communication affect the students’ perceptions and foreknowledge. One of the dilemmas is the place of the individual, his customs, traditions, and knowledge in the global village. This dilemma arises for teaching and learning mathematics itself.
