Abstract
Social scientists argue that race is socially constructed; in other words, racial categorization emerges out of particular times and places to meet certain social and political needs. Racial categorization is an ongoing process, thus, the racial hierarchy is always in flux, despite its static appearance. Not surprisingly, sociologists offer predictions as to what groups are likely to experience a changed racial status in the future.
