Abstract
George Zimmerman’s acquittal resulted in a call from activists and academics across the country to repeal stand-your-ground laws. What followed was a movement that began in Florida to eliminate a legal mechanism that has racist applications and bias in favor of perpetrators and produced unjust outcomes (Alvarez, 2013). Yet many Americans were confused or ill informed about the other legal concerns at issue.
