Introduction

Abstract

Education in the 21^st century, and in particular schooling, is a composite set of contradictions that make navigating a pathway from student to teacher a complex endeavor to say the least. The last decade has seen the most significant articulation of educational reform through legislation such as No Child Left Behind, teacher education reform such as Teach for America and other alternative pathways, school structure reform in the image of corporatized private-interest publically-funded charter schools, and curricular reform such as Common Core State Standards and Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers (PARCC) assessments.
