Abstract

John Baptiste de La Salle was born into a wealthy French family in the mid 1600’s. Early in life he abandoned his wealth to devote himself to educating children who were less fortunate than he. De La Salle organized a group of lay teachers who shared his devotion to education and established a Roman Catholic order of Brothers devoted to education.
