Abstract

This chapter aims to present the major pursuits of basic education reforms in China from 1985 to 2010. It includes three sections. The first section briefly analyses the international educational context that has greatly influenced reforms in Chinese basic education. The second section depicts the backgrounds of the reforms. The third section focuses on specific education reform and policies directly shaping the present educational context.
