Abstract

Born in 1947, Alan Schoenfeld began his career as a research mathematician. After obtaining his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics in the late sixties, he continued his doctoral study in mathematics at Stanford University, earning a PhD in 1973. He became a lecturer at the University of California at Davis, and later a lecturer and research mathematician in the Graduate Group in Science and Mathematics Education at the University of California at Berkeley.
