Methodological Issues in Research and Development

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Mathematics Teaching and Learning ((MTAL))

Abstract

This chapter builds on Alan Schoenfeld’s seminal contributions on methodological issues (Schoenfeld, 1980, 1985, 1992, 1994, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2010) and on our discussions over many years of collaboration and complementary thinking: Alan with the priorities of a cognitive and social scientist with a concern for practice; I with those of an educational engineer who recognizes the importance of insightfocused research for guiding good design.
