Abstract
During the last decennia Religious Education (RE) theory in many European countries became more and more aware of the essential importance of the European context. Compared to older conceptions of faith education, contextual orientated models of RE, despite considerable differences, share the strength, that religion is grasped seriously as a phenomenon of human self-understanding and culture.
