Abstract

When confronted with the difficulties of the present, most Americans nostalgically long for the past – the “good old days” when life was simpler, more moral, and less troubled. When we closely examine those former times, however, we see within our rose-colored glasses obscure cracks of extreme and institutionalized racism, sexism and homophobia.
