Abstract

It is both an over-used cliché, and a significant truism, that the pen is mightier than the sword. Of course, one can always argue that this is not the case, that in any instance of conflict, physical force will triumph over intellectual ability. However, this distorts the larger, more complex reality: the fact that, although the soldier has the power to wield a gun, the politician with a pen has the power to wield the soldier.
