Abstract

Patrick worked in the engineering plant on a local industrial estate and Shirley was a beautician. Fergus was in Year 11 and had been identified as gifted and his sister, Holly, was in her last year of junior school. Fergus’s biological father, with whom he had a good relationship, but who did not live nearby, originally came from South America. Patrick and Shirley were Holly’s parents.
