Abstract

If knowledge is acquired in getting the feel of the movement, the memorising is achieved through repeated performance. Yet to learn a dance step mechanically does not lead to the understanding of its meaning.... Verbal explanation and study of the source and purpose of a movement might be considered as a further way of perfecting the conception of the meaning of it. . (Rudolf Laban, 1971, p. 29)
