Abstract
Teacher- student interactions are relevant in many teaching and learning processes in the classroom. The literature consistently provides support for the premise that high-quality teacher-student relationships are an important factor in effective teaching. Teachers’ behaviours as perceived by students from an interpersonal perspective have an effect on students’ achievement, motivation and attitudes (e.g., Martin & Dowson, 2009; Reid, 2007). The teacher-student relationship is also important because it directly relates to order in the classroom, one of the most common problem areas in education for both inexperienced and experienced teachers (Veenman, 1984).
