Uncovering and Destabilizing Heteronormative Narratives in World History Textbooks

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Constructing Knowledge ((CKCS,volume 1))

Abstract

As I write the introduction to this chapter, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is once again apologizing for his use of a gay slur toward NBA referee Bennie Adams. After being fined $100,000 by the league, Bryant responded that though the slur “wasn’t meant in the way it was perceived to be, [it] is nonetheless wrong, so it’s important to own that” (ESPNLosAngeles.com, 2011).
