Abstract

Malaysia is a country of 329,750 square kilometers. The country’s two main regions are separated by the South China Sea, with Peninsular Malaysia at the southern tip of South East Asia, and East Malaysia, comprising the states of Sabah and Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. With a total population of 28 million, Malaysia is a well-known melting pot that includes Malay, Indian, Chinese, Kadazan, Iban, and many other ethnic groups (Department of Statistics Malaysia, 2010). The Malays and the indigenous ethnic groups of Malaysia make up 65% of the population, the Chinese make up 26%, and Indians, 8%. The rest of the population is comprised of other ethnic groups (Department of Statistics Malaysia, 2010).
