Abstract

Malawi, a member of the Southern African Development Community block, is bordered by Tanzania (north), Zambia (west), and Mozambique (south). Malawi’s population increased from 6 million in 1966, when the first postindependence Population and Housing national census was conducted, to just over 13 million in 2008 (National Statistical Office, 2008). The Malawi nation has remained a predominantly rural society.
