Abstract
A return to Eastgates Primary School sets the scene here. Six months on, the principal faces an issue that divides the teacher and parent community and causes much disharmony and disunity. The culture of resentment and complaint is characteristic of that which is encountered in many other educational communities. This is where gratitude is most under threat as many teachers report that it is difficult to practise gratitude when others near them are negative. Teachers who use gratitude as a way of reaching beyond an habitual response of complaint give examples of their actions.
