Abstract
Writing doctoral theses has long roots. Already, in the 17th century at the Academy of Turku doctoral theses were conducted; but at those days, authors were professors in specific fields. Some professors excelled in churning out doctoral theses, such as Professor of Poetry and Eloquence Petrus Ekerman who published 615 doctoral theses. Indeed, the question was about manufacturing, as a professor addressed a student with a friendly letter about the costs of writing a doctoral thesis.
