Abstract

This chapter identifies the context in which we make our proposals for a process model that supports users to link their pupils’/students’ learning with their own professional learning; it identifies the major themes addressed in the book, provides a rationale for the development of the process model and briefly describes the content of the chapters which follow. The rationale for the book and the recent historical, political and economic factors, which impact upon the issues covered by the book are highlighted in order to provide the context.
