Abstract
This chapter suggests specific examples of tasks and applications that are suitable to stimulate mathematical thinking and enhance mathematical understanding at this level. The senior primary years are defined as being years five to eight, typically children aged nine to thirteen. The New Zealand Curriculum (Ministry of Education, 2007) offers a content and pedagogical frame that encourages schools to recognise and incorporate their particular community within their school curriculum.
