Abstract

Pre-colonial traditional societies in Africa were mostly oral societies that dependent on language and historical narratives. Language played and still plays an important role in communicating a point or opinion and shared sentiments. It has an educational, social, economic, and political role in the narratives of the community and in establishing relationships among people. In short, it is a socialisation and developmental tool.
