Abstract
The action outcomes presented here, Play in the Terraces, the Skills Exchange, and the Parents Centre, emerged from the ALP learning programmes discussed in Chapter 3. Each has a very different character and has succeeded in involving a large number of people, retaining their commitment over an extended period, and creating a new kind of service based on principles of mutuality and self-help. They demonstrate the ALP approach to action, which is proactive rather than simply reactive, and is always preceded and accompanied by reflection.
