Giving Voice to Science from two Perspectives

Abstract

SNIT?E?(pronounced sneakwith) is SENCOTEN for The Place of the Blue Grouse, a special place to WSÁNEC [Saanich] First Nations communities on the Saanich Peninsula, north of Victoria, British Columbia (BC). (The alphabet for the SENCOTEN language was developed by David Elliott, Sr., and can be studied at the website for the First Peoples Cultural Foundation http://www.fpcf.ca/.) Part of this traditional territory was utilized for hunting, fishing, shellfish gathering, and sacred ceremony; SNIT?E? was historically considered a safe settlement during the winter months.
