Abstract

This chapter provides some of the social and political context in Britain during the early part of the 20th century. This allows the reader to have a greater understanding of the development of Hahn’s philosophy with reference to outdoor activities. As well as providing an overview, specific points are mentioned which relate to and are referred to, in the following chapters. The reader must understand from the outset that many of these points are interrelated in a complex tapestry.
