Emerging Trends in TVET in Asia and the Pacific Region: CPSC’s Response

  • Chapter

Abstract

In spite of the large-scale geographical, economic and demographic diversities among the Asia-Pacific countries, the countries in the region share many common challenges and are confronted by general issues which have to be addressed in order to improve the quality and relevance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET), enabling them to gain a competitive edge in the growing knowledge economy. The Asia-Pacific region has distinguished itself in the past decade as the world’s most rapidly developing region. It now accounts for more than 35% of the world gross domestic product (GDP) in purchasing power parity terms (ADB, 2008). However there are large variations and disparities in economic growth among the countries.
