A Sociological Approach to the Study of Integrazione Scolastica

  • Simona D’Alessio
Part of the Studies in Inclusive Education book series (STUIE, volume 10)

This book is situated in a research paradigm that can be broadly defined as the social model of disability. So much has been written about the social model of disability in the UK (Oliver, 1990, Barton and Oliver, 1992, Skakespeare and Watson, 1997, Barnes, Oliver and Barton, 2002), that it is sometimes more difficult to find examples of how such an approach to disability may be used to study education policy. The purpose of this chapter is therefore to discuss how this model has been adopted as the main conceptual framework for a sociological analysis of the policy of integrazione scolastica.
