Abstract

This chapter examines critically the history, contributions of, and current status of Higher Education in the West Indies, also known as the Caribbean Region. This chapter explores and evaluates the historical development the shifts in control and the contemporary status of access and control of higher education in the Caribbean, and the British West Indies. The chapter demonstrates that the West Indies Higher Education system has created a stable niche market in international education, not only for students, who are citizens of the various countries in the West Indies, but also for students throughout the world.
