Abstract
Cannabaceae, in the order of Rosales, is a small family of flowering plants, including about 170 species grouped in about 11 genera. Plants are erect or twining herbs, sometimes trees. Leaves are often more or less palmately lobed or palmately compound and stipulate. Cystoliths are always present and laticiferous. Plants are dioecious. Flowers are actinomorphic, not showy, and pollinated by wind. Calyx is short with corolla absent. Flowers are numerous and arranged to cymes. Male inflorescences are paniculate, while female ones are shorter, with fewer flowers. Pistil is connate and carpels two. Ovary is superior, unilocular. Fruit is an achene or a drupe. One species, Humulus scandens (Lour.) Merr., is illustrated in the chapter.
