Abstract

Dengue fever (DF) is an acute mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by the dengue virus. Clinically, it is characterized by sudden onset and early symptoms of fever, systemic muscular pain, systemic skeleton and joint pain, extreme fatigue, congestive skin rashes, poor appetite, and taste dysfunction. In its advanced stage, symptoms of nausea, vomiting, hemorrhagic skin rashes, diarrhea, bleeding tendency, enlarged lymph nodes, and leukocytopenia can be found. Severe dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) are the serious types of DF, which commonly occur with sudden aggravation of the clinical conditions 2–4 days after the onset of typical symptoms of DF. The clinical manifestations include bleeding, thrombocytopenia, and pachyemia. In serious cases, shock may occur, with a high mortality rate.
