Abstract
This conclusion presents, in a synthetic manner, some key points of Uexküll’s conception of nature and life: the idea of the Umwelt as a species-specific construction that is both transcendental and semiotic, the presence in Uexküll’s work of elements of vitalism and teleology, the possibility to use his concept of Umwelt as a useful theoretical tool for preserving biodiversity.
