Abstract
The Digital Soil Map of Slovenia was completed in 1999, revised, and delivered to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry in 2001 using the Slovenian Soil Classification (SSC). Subsequently, the legend was translated in accordance with the revised legend of the Soil Map of the World (FAO and UNESCO 1997) in spite of the fact that the FAO map was not intended for mapping soils on a local scale but merely at continental scales. The translation was unofficial and unrevised and thus temporary. For this book, the SSC soil types were checked, and the primary and secondary qualifiers were determined for the appropriate translation of the SSC soil types into the WRB soil classification. The WRB translation was linked to the geometry of the Digital Soil Map of Slovenia 1:25,000, and a map of WRB reference soil groups found on Slovenian territory was elaborated. This chapter presents the distribution and extent of individual WRB RSGs: Cambisols, Leptosols, Gleysols, Stagnosols, Luvisols, and Histosols. Maps are accompanied by statistics on the area the RSGs occupy and a description of the relevant landscapes and are illustrated with photographs of characteristic landscapes that belong to the main WRB RSGs.
