Abstract
Upon observation of the way in which a baby a few days old looks around it in an apparently normal way, with the eyes wide open, even an ophthalmologist will hardly be inclined to doubt that the child does really see, i.e. receives and analyses visual impressions. This seems to be a matter of course.
