Abstract

This globe has existed for several millions of years. There is no reason to suppose that it — and, subject to certain conditions, the human race with it — will not last for some millions of years more. It is suitable that an eminent and world-wide Conference such as this should assess basic priorities; and make an analysis of those factors which threaten human survival. These can be distinguished from those factors, medical, educational, industrial and political, which may be beneficial for human welfare but which are broadly irrelevant to survival, and which humanity has still millions of years of leisure on its hands to think about.

We must never confuse error with the person who errs” — John XXIII.
