Abstract
World population, which today comprises some three milliard people is expected to double within a few decades. This makes it essential to produce more food by the utilization of vast areas of land which, up to now, have not been cultivated because they are unsuitable for normal agriculture. Furthermore, it necessitates the searching out and putting to use of new water resources, such as waters which are more or less brackish.
