Abstract
According to Alcorn240, p. 115: “First drilling in open waters of the Gulf started on October 6, 1937, a joint operation of The Superior Oil Company and the Pure Oil Company, 6000 ft, off shore in 14 ft. of water (mean low tide) known as the Creole field. In 1941 a second one followed. The latest development of the Pure Oil Company is 9 miles off shore from the Louisiana coast-line”.
