Summary

The erythrocyte antigenic structure of two important cattle breeds, Spanish Friesian and Rubia Gallega, was typed for the first time in Spain. The blood antigenic factors were studied by means of blood typing reagents from foreign laboratories.

Frequency percentages of these antigenic factors are presented and show the lack of some factors in the Rubia Gallega cattle breed. Gene frequencies at the FV locus are also presented, χ2 test indicates the possibility of a quick genetic improvement of the animals studied. Presently, we are producing test sera in our laboratory by immunization of some animals used in this work. Blood groups will be used in Spain for parentage control at the ‘ stations, where A. I. techniques are applied.
