Tweeennegentig afbeeldingen van geschiedenissen uit het Oude Testament; bovenaan de houtsnede enkele regels Latijnse tekst en onderaan de Spaanse versie. In 1538, te Lyon bij de gebroeders Trechsel, verscheen de eerste editie van dit werk naar ontwerpen van Hans Holbein de Jongere. De Antwerpse Steelsiuseditie, een contrefaçon, geeft een zeer getrouwe kopie van de Trechseluitgave. Alle houtsneden zijn niet van dezelfde kwaliteit en worden aan diverse kunstenaars toegeschreven.
Abstract
This is a book of ninety-two illustrations of stories from the Old Testament. At the top of each woodcut there are a few lines of Latin text; at the bottom, the Spanish version. The first edition of this work was published by the Trechsel brothers in Lyon in 1538. The Antwerp edition by Steels, a pirated one, is a very faithful copy of the Trechsel edition. Not all the woodcuts are of the same quality, and they are attributed to several different artists.
