Abstract
Before reviewing the ever-increasing number of translations of non-Russian literary works related to the sentimental trend, we will consult Andrei Bolotov’s critical survey of translations which was written at the height of the sentimental movement in Russia.1 His comments are valuable for the literary historian as they illustrate a process which was an integral part of the evolution of literature in 18th century Russia,—the development of new linguistic and stylistic norms.
