Abstract

At the core of romantic philosophy was a new, organic concept of nature, which had received its profoundest formulation in the philosophy of Schelling. Nature appeared as the creative principle behind all that existed. As such it was identified with art. Beyond her lurked primeval chaos and eternal night. These key concepts of romantic philosophy appeared in Russian writing only occasionally and in a vague form.
