Abstract
The structure of compounds perhaps does not appear to be the most exciting issue in morphological theory. Usually it is assumed that compounds are formed by adjoining one X0 stem to another, resulting in a structure like (1).
For comments and discussion I would like to thank Reineke Bok-Bennema, Geert Booij, Siebren Dyk, Jack Hoeksema, Gunlög Josefsson, Johan Kerstens, Vieri Samek-Lodvici, Mieke Trommelen, Fred Weerman, two anonymous reviewers, and audiences at the Taalkundig Colloquium at University of Groningen, Linguistics in the Netherlands 1998 at Utrecht University, and at University of Konstanz.
