Abstract

Most models of morphological processing assume that polymorphemic words are parsed into constituent morphemes in the course of lexical access. According to some models (see Burani & Caramazza, 1987; Caramazza, Laudanna, & Romani, 1988; Schreuder & Baayen, 1995), linguistic stimuli activate in parallel two types of access units, i.e. units corresponding to the whole word, and units corresponding to the morphemes included in the stimulus. What characterizes this class of models is that the two types of access units are simultaneously activated, and the output is given by the access unit or units which are faster in providing access to lexical representations.
