Abstract

The paper describes the wind load mechanism of permeable building envelopes. Typical failure modes of porous outer sheetings of roofs are presented. The most common wind securement systems for roofs of industrial buildings, their design and their performance are discussed. Full scale experience and proof testing of mechanically attachted roofing membranes emphasis the necessity to take into account the gustiness of the wind and the influence of the thermal insulation properties.
