Abstract
Many of the cable crane systems lift the logs above the ground and transport them along the skyline above the terrain obstacles. This is sometimes called “to fly the timber”. Other transport means such as aeroplanes, helicopters, airships and balloons do the same. These are vehicles which carry the load by, means of aerostatic or aerodynamic lift. They fall outside the framework of this book on winch and cable systems.
